Activity Introduction: Through various Mid-Autumn Festival celebration activities, our young children, not only learned about the traditional culture and customs of the festival, but also had the opportunity to make lanterns, solve riddles, and create snow-skin mooncakes with their peers, while experiencing the joyful atmosphere of the holiday. They have also learned to share with their families the snow-skin mooncakes that they had made, to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival together.

Activity Introduction: By listening to the traditional Mid-Autumn Festival stories, the students are helped to understand their various origins and customs. Additionally, they enjoy making different styles/forms of clay mooncakes, while participating in lantern-making activities with their peers, and embracing the joy brought by Chinese traditions.

Activity Introduction: The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of China’s traditional holidays.The school helps students understand the origins of the Mid-Autumn Festival by creating unique hand-made crafts and mooncakes, while letting them experience the festive atmosphere, learn about Chinese culture through play activities, and deepen their awareness of their national identity.

Target Participants: All Children in the Kindergarten
Activity Introduction: Students participate in the school’s National Day celebration activities to learn about the national flag, national anthem, and the process and etiquette of raising the flag. This enhances their understanding and awareness of the country, promotes their sense of national identity, and fosters respect for the nation, as well as a sense of belonging to their homeland. On the day of the celebration, students wore traditional clothing to school, and through observing and practising various activities, they learned different Chinese dances, which further strengthened their appreciation and understanding of the country and its culture. Our school is fortunate to have invited elders to perform and engage in activities with the children, allowing them to experience the joy of intergenerational interaction and to cultivate the traditional virtues of caring for, and respecting the elderly.


National Day Celebration Activities
Activity Name: Shadow Play Theater
Activity Date: Year 2024-2025
Target Participants: All Children in the Kindergarten
Activity Introduction: In June and July, we held birthday celebration activities and invited external organizations to introduce Chinese culture — specifically, shadow puppetry. The students have learned about the origins and characteristics of shadow puppetry through the engaging demonstrations and performances by the instructors. During group activities, the students had the chance to manipulate the shadow puppets themselves and have learned to collaborate with their peers to tell stories. The event was fun and most enjoyable. It not only allowed the students to experience the joy of participating in these activities, but it also provided them with a deeper understanding of ancient traditional Chinese folk art. It was a truly meaningful activity!

Activity Introduction: At the birthday celebration event, we incorporated elements of Chinese culture—specifically Cantonese opera. This included an introduction to Cantonese opera, appreciation of its performances, and demonstrations. The aim was to help the students to gain a deeper understanding of traditional Chinese arts. Through various games, the students learned the importance of respecting and appreciating traditional Chinese culture. During the activities, they wore beautiful and exquisite headdresses and water sleeves, moving their bodies in rhythm with the changing music. Their dance was both graceful and adorable, and everyone enjoyed themselves while celebrating the birthday.

Activity Name: “From Charity to Legacy Sacred Heart 165th Anniversary” Family Fun Day

Activity Introduction: To celebrate the Sacred Heart 165th Anniversary, the Kindergarten, in collaboration with the Parent-Teacher Association, hosted the “From Charity to Legacy – Sacred Heart 165th Anniversary” Family Fun Day. Teachers and parent volunteers have prepared various booth games, and there was a “Chinese Culture Zone” featuring activities such as a Drum Workshop, a Colourful-Painted Fan Workshop, a Spinning Top Workshop, a Shuttlecock Workshop, a Shuttlecock Kicking Competition, and a Pot-throwing Game. Throughout the event, children and parents had the opportunity to create different crafts, enhancing parent-child interaction, while gaining a deeper understanding of the Chinese culture and enjoying traditional games.

Activity Name: Lunar New Year Celebration Activities

Activity Introduction: Through role-playing the stories of the Twelve Zodiac Animals and the lion dance activities, children can gain a deeper understanding of the characteristics of the traditional Chinese festival-the Lunar New Year. The activities can also help the children understand the significance of the New Year, learn about the food and different customs associated with the celebration, enhance their awareness of traditional Chinese culture, foster a sense of national identity, and enjoy the festive atmosphere of celebrating the Chinese New Year.

Activity Introduction: The National Day celebration was held to enhance the children’s understanding of their country. They have participated in the flag-raising ceremony to learn about the national flag, the national anthem, and the process and etiquette of the ceremony. The activities have strengthened their sense of national identity and cultivated respect for their homeland and a sense of belonging to it. On the day of celebration all the children wore traditional Chinese clothing to school, and they have also learned various traditional Chinese dances. Through participation in the various items, they have deepened their appreciation and understanding of their country and its culture. Moreover, many elderly people were invited to the school to perform and engage with the children, allowing the children to experience the joy of intergenerational bonding, and to develop the traditional virtues of caring for and respecting their elders.

They have also learned to make different types of mooncakes using soft clay. Through sharing them with their family, they have experienced the joy of celebrating traditional Chinese festivals together.

Activity Introduction: Through activity and game experiences, and appreciating face-changing performances, the children can learn about the art of face-changing. In addition, through the making of face-changing masks, they have some exposure to Chinese arts, and enjoy the fun of birthday parties.

Activity Introduction: In this two-day Chinese cultural activity, the students had the opportunity to appreciate the Chinese Shadow Puppet performances, allowing them to learn about traditional cultural arts and activities. Additionally, it provided them with various hands-on experiences, such as making flour dolls, paper windmills, and shadow puppets. These activities increased the children’s understanding of Chinese culture and sparked their interest in traditional customs and culture. They had the chance to deepen the understanding of their own national culture, to recognize that they are Chinese, and to strengthen their national identity.

Activity Introduction: Children are introduced to the Dragon Boat Festival, the history of Qu Yuan, Dragon Boat racing, and the making of glutinous rice dumpling through various activities. This allows children to understand the traditional customs and culture of the Dragon Boat Festival, and gives them the opportunity to learn about and participate in these activities, deepening their understanding and awareness of Chinese culture. These activities not only allow children to feel the charm of Chinese culture, but also promote friendship and mutual respect among themselves, thus fostering interest in learning about Chinese culture.

Activity Name: Gratitude to St. Magdalene of Canossa, the Foundress of the Canossian for coming to China (I would like to turn into dust and travel to every corner of the world)

Activity Introduction: On the feast day of our Foundress, the children learned about, and recognized, the virtues of St. Magdalene of Canossa. Through participating in various traditional Chinese folk handicrafts, the children have increased their knowledge of Chinese arts and culture, which also sparked their interest in traditional customs and culture. The children have also experienced the joy of traditional Chinese arts through the making of “fragrance sachets” and “candy drawings”.

Activity Introduction: “Through the activity theme: “Gratitude for Being Chinese”, children can be thankful to the Heavenly Father for giving some particular talents to the Chinese people. By appreciating the Chinese acrobatic performances, such as, “Diabolo” and “Plate spinning”, children can learn about the characteristics of traditional Chinese culture. Furthermore, they can also learn about some other different traditional Chinese games, through group games.”

Activity Introduction: Through magic performances, dragon dances, and game experiences, we help young children understand the significance of the Chinese New Year and learn about the meaning of the different foodstuffs eaten during the Chinese New Year period. We also aim to familiarize them with the customs of the Lunar New Year, enhance their understanding of Chinese traditional culture, and strengthen their sense of national identity. By participating in these festivities, children can immerse themselves in the joyful atmosphere of celebrating Chinese New Year.

Activity Introduction: Event Description: To enhance students’ awareness and understanding of the Chinese culture, the school organized a birthday party with the theme of “Children’s Play and Fun.” During the event, the children were introduced to various traditional Chinese toys such as cuju (ancient football), jianzi (shuttlecock), spinning tops, and jacks. The children enjoyed playing with these traditional Chinese toys and actively invited their peers to join in the games, thus creating a joyful atmosphere all round. Through this activity, the children gained a deeper understanding of the Chinese culture, experienced the childhood joy of Chinese children in the past, and developed a stronger sense of national identity.
